In De Gezichten, Delle Donne Consort delves into the fragile inner world of a woman slowly unraveling. Inspired by Tove Ditlevsen’s novel The Faces (1968), the performance traces a descent into psychological disintegration, where perception fractures, identities shift, and the familiar takes on an unsettling, uncanny quality.
The project is developed through an intensive process of co-creation with composer Frederik Neyrinck, sound artist Maarten Buyl, and the electropop duo Teletext (Leonore Spee and Sascha Bornkamp), alongside soprano Naomi Beeldensand recorder player Juho Myllylä. Bringing together recorders, voice, text, and live electronics, the ensemble collectively shapes a shared sonic language in which each artistic voice remains distinctly present.
During the creation residency, the previously developed material is further deepened and tested in practice. This phase is crucial, as the full artistic team comes together to collectively shape and refine the performance.
Music, text, and sound design are no longer developed separately, but brought together within a first scenographic and performative framework. The composition evolves in close dialogue with the performing co-creators, allowing for a detailed exploration of nuance, expression, and interplay. Text is integrated into the musical and dramaturgical fabric, with space for adjustments in rhythm, intonation, and meaning. Sound design is further refined in relation to the live performance context and tested in interaction with the performers.
In parallel, attention is given to styling, contributing to the broader scenography and strengthening the visual identity of the performance.
The creation residency is a moment of intense collaboration: a space where experimentation remains essential, yet where decisive artistic choices are made, guiding De Gezichten towards its final form.
